Comvergent in association with Northamptonshire County Council, delivered a fully installed and managed public access WiFi system as part of an initiative to regenerate and enhance the library experience for residents and its many visitors.
Comvergent provided a complete turnkey solution including design, planning, installation and commissioning of software and hardware. The network is operated and centrally managed by Comvergent in conjunction with Northamptonshire County Council to minimise the operational costs of running, configuring and maintaining the network.
The first phase of the project provided WiFi coverage in 42 Libraries across the county but already further phases are being planned for wider coverage in the local area. This partnership has delivered real benefits for residents and visitors. With its vibrant community life, intriguing history and many independent businesses, the county of Northamptonshire has much to offer residents and visitors and the library WiFi project will enhance the overall visitor experience and develop the County Council’s digital inclusion strategy.
Northamptonshire County Council cabinet member for customers and communities Councillor Heather Smith said:
“We are pleased that we will be able to offer WiFi as we know this is something that library-users have wanted to see, and thanks to a number of councillors using their Empowering Councillors Funds to assist with the costs, we are able to proceed in all of our libraries.”
“Comvergent was selected to provide this new technology following an extensive tendering process as part of our continued work to improve libraries for our thousands of customers”.
